Chris Yo yo.

Jon What up. What are we on, baby talking bitches? (sigh)

Chris Haha yeahhhh. Ready to plow into this sucker?

Jon Let’s do it. Count it off!

Chris Alright, 3, 2, 1, now!

Jon I like the tape warble effect, intentional or not.

Chris Yeah agreed.

Chris Kind of has a western flavor to my ear. Feels more demo-y.

Jon And we’re back to some solid rock/blues riffage. But then weird pop pastiche?

Chris Yeah?

Jon The verses yeah. This song is all over the place.

Chris Yeah it’s chock full of changes. It feels like an early ‘70s boogie track at points.

Jon Yeah. Feels like another “Devo is upset they’re not getting laid” kinda song.

Chris Haha yeah, that sums it up. I guess that’s an innovation? Everyone else is bragging about how they’re getting laid.

Jon Haha. I love how that one member of Devo always sounds like he’s chiming in from an adjacent room.

Chris Ha yeah. “We could do without you for days.”

Jon Clunky writing. But all in all I dig the song well enough.

Chris I guess that’s just bragging about being a sex camel?

Jon Haha, sexual ketosis. It has that classic Devo BOOP BOOP BEEP cadence in the you-for-days part.

Chris Yeah exactly. It does surprise me how much they have fairly straight ahead rock songs. At least for Devo.

Jon Yeah! The descending riff in this one reminds me of the verses of be stiff.

Chris Oh interesting. I can see that.

Jon The “stay dry in rubber boots” melody I mean. Maybe they just liked that line a lot and weren’t sure how to employ it.

Chris Do you think this is a “working out ideas” song?

Jon Perhaps!

Chris In that they are molding stuff that they’d use more precisely later?

Jon Yeah kinda like how they reused a lot of All of Us for Going Under.

Chris Right right. Those songs were farther apart chronologically, so it would be interesting if there was a connection between this one and be stiff, happening during the same period. How would you rate the sexism in this track?

Jon A high 7, maybe 8.

Chris Yeah. It pretty much encapsulates the “we are owed sex” thing. Do you have anything more to say on this one?

Jon I think we just about covered it!
